Yiwu is well known for its large selection of small commodities, gifts, household products, accessories, craft supplies, packaging, and decorative items.
However, overseas buyers do not necessarily need to travel to China to purchase products from Yiwu.
With a clear remote sourcing process, you can submit a product request, review the costs, see the actual products received in China, and approve them before international shipping.
Why Buying from Yiwu Remotely Can Be Difficult
Yiwu offers a wide range of products, but the purchasing process is often designed for domestic Chinese buyers.
Overseas customers may face several challenges.
Chinese-Language Listings
Product titles, specifications, seller messages, shipping details, and return policies may be written mainly in Chinese.
Important information such as minimum quantity, colors, dimensions, and packaging may require direct confirmation.
Local Payment Requirements
Some sellers may not accept international credit cards, PayPal, or overseas bank payments.
China-Only Delivery
Many sellers ship only to addresses within China.
The product must first be received locally before international shipping can be arranged.
Unclear Product Details
Listing photographs may show a sample rather than the exact item shipped.
The received product may differ in:
- Color
- Size
- Surface finish
- Packaging
- Included accessories
- Handmade details
- Production batch
Unknown International Shipping Cost
The final shipping cost may not be available until the products have been received, packed, weighed, and measured.
Step 1: Find a Product
You can begin with:
- A Yiwu seller link
- A 1688 product link
- A Taobao or Tmall listing
- A JD.com listing
- An Amazon or AliExpress reference
- A product photograph
- A written description
You do not need to locate the original factory before submitting a request.
A seller may be a manufacturer, wholesaler, distributor, or trading company. Product information should be checked rather than assuming every listing represents factory-direct supply.
Step 2: Submit Your Request
Send the following information:
- Product link or image
- Required quantity
- Preferred color
- Size or measurements
- Model or specifications
- Destination country
- Any special requirements
Submitting a sourcing request to AncientTao is free.
We review the request and confirm available product information with the seller.
Step 3: Review the Stage 1 Quote
Before purchasing anything, you receive a cost breakdown showing:
- Actual product cost
- China domestic shipping
- Applicable sourcing service fee
AncientTao’s service fee is based on the total product value within one sourcing order:
- Up to $100: $29.99
- $101–$250: $44.99
- $251–$500: $69.99
The applicable fee is the same whether the order contains one product or several products.
Orders above $500 require an individual quote.
Step 4: Approve the Product Purchase
Review the product details and Stage 1 costs carefully.
After your payment is received, AncientTao purchases the approved products on your behalf.
If the seller changes the price or the product becomes unavailable before purchase, we contact you before ordering an alternative or collecting an additional amount.
Step 5: The Seller Ships to Our China Office
The seller delivers the products to our receiving location in China.
China domestic delivery time depends on:
- Seller processing time
- Product availability
- Seller location
- Domestic carrier
- Public holidays
- Local transportation conditions
The product must arrive before we can confirm its visible condition and final packed shipping information.
Step 6: We Inspect the Products
After receiving the products, we perform a basic visual inspection.
We may check:
- Product type
- Quantity
- Visible condition
- Color, size, or model when reasonably verifiable
- Included accessories
- Packaging
- Obvious differences from the approved listing
We then send you unedited photos or videos of the actual products received.
What the Inspection Does Not Guarantee
Our inspection is not:
- A laboratory analysis
- A technical performance test
- A professional authenticity certification
- A product safety certification
- A material-composition test
- An expert appraisal
- Proof that the seller is the original manufacturer
Hidden defects and internal problems may not be visible during a basic inspection.
Step 7: Review and Approve the Products
You review the inspection photos or videos before international shipping.
If we identify visible damage, an incorrect quantity, an incorrect product, or another significant visible difference, we contact you.
We can assist with requesting:
- A return
- An exchange
- A replacement
- A seller refund
The available solution depends on the seller’s return policy, evidence requirements, acceptance period, and decision.
Step 8: Packing and International Shipping
After you approve the products, we securely pack the order.
The international shipping cost is calculated using:
- Final packed weight
- Package dimensions
- Destination country and postal code
- Product category
- Selected shipping method
- Carrier requirements
You then receive a separate Stage 2 shipping quote.
The package is dispatched after you approve and pay the international shipping cost.
Why Shipping Is Not Paid at the Beginning
The product listing may show only the item weight.
It may not include:
- Product boxes
- Protective packaging
- Reinforced cartons
- Bubble wrap
- Combined-order packaging
- Dimensional or volumetric weight
Calculating shipping after packing allows the quote to use the actual package information.
Can Several Products Be Combined?
Several approved products may be included in the same sourcing order and packed together when practical.
Combining products may reduce duplicated packaging and avoid sending several separate international parcels.
However, combining packages does not always reduce the final cost.
Shipping also depends on:
- Total weight
- Package volume
- Fragility
- Product restrictions
- Carrier pricing rules
Is DDP Shipping Available?
A tracked DDP or duties-paid shipping method may be available for certain products and destinations.
When duties and taxes are included, the written shipping quote will state this clearly.
DDP does not guarantee:
- No customs inspection
- No delivery delay
- Continuous tracking updates
- Availability for every product
- Availability in every country
The available shipping method depends on the product, destination, package size, declared value, and carrier.
Transparent Remote Yiwu Sourcing
AncientTao separates the main costs:
- Actual product cost
- China domestic shipping
- Sourcing service fee
- International shipping
You review the applicable costs before each payment.
We do not describe every seller as a factory, guarantee the lowest market price, or hide our service earnings inside marked-up product prices.
Remote sourcing cannot eliminate every purchasing risk.
However, local seller communication, China receiving, visual inspection, transparent costs, secure packing, and international shipping coordination can make buying from Yiwu easier without requiring international travel.
