Yiwu is one of China’s best-known sourcing centers for small commodities, gifts, accessories, household products, craft supplies, and many other product categories.
Its large product selection can create opportunities for overseas buyers. However, purchasing remotely can also involve challenges such as Chinese-language listings, seller communication, product variations, domestic payments, inspection, and international shipping.
A China-based sourcing service can help manage these steps before the products leave China.
What Can Buyers Source from Yiwu?
Products available through Yiwu sellers and related Chinese marketplaces may include:
- Home and kitchen accessories
- Tea ware and drinkware
- Incense accessories
- Decorative items
- Craft supplies
- Jewelry boxes
- Festival and gift products
- Stationery
- Small household products
- Fashion accessories
- Packaging materials
Product availability, minimum order quantity, price, and shipping options depend on the individual seller.
Not every Yiwu seller is a manufacturer. Some sellers may be factories, distributors, wholesalers, trading companies, or market vendors.
Why Remote Yiwu Sourcing Can Be Difficult
Overseas customers may encounter several problems when buying directly.
Language and Communication
Many listings and seller conversations are primarily in Chinese.
Product specifications, color options, minimum quantities, packaging details, and delivery times may require direct confirmation with the seller.
Domestic Payment
Some Chinese sellers and marketplaces do not provide convenient payment options for overseas customers.
Product Listing Differences
Marketplace photographs may show sample products rather than the exact item that will be shipped.
There may be differences in:
- Color
- Size
- Surface finish
- Packaging
- Included accessories
- Production batches
- Handmade details
China Domestic Delivery
The product normally needs to be delivered to a location in China before inspection and international shipping can be arranged.
International Shipping
The final shipping cost may not be known until the product has been received, inspected, packed, weighed, and measured.
How AncientTao’s Yiwu Sourcing Process Works
AncientTao provides a two-stage sourcing and payment process.
Step 1: Submit a Product Link or Image
Send us:
- A Yiwu marketplace link
- A Taobao, Tmall, JD.com, or 1688 link
- A product image
- A product description
- Your required quantity and specifications
Submitting a sourcing request is free.
We review the request and confirm available product information with the seller.
Step 2: Receive a Transparent Stage 1 Quote
Your Stage 1 quote clearly separates:
- Actual product cost
- China domestic shipping
- Sourcing service fee
The sourcing service fee is based on the total product value within one sourcing order:
- Product value up to $100: $29.99
- Product value from $101 to $250: $44.99
- Product value from $251 to $500: $69.99
The same service-fee tier applies whether the order contains one product or several products.
Product and shipping costs are not hidden inside the service fee.
Step 3: We Purchase the Approved Product
After you review and pay the Stage 1 quote, AncientTao purchases the approved product on your behalf.
The seller then ships the product to our China office.
China domestic delivery time depends on the seller’s processing time, location, inventory, and selected domestic carrier.
Step 4: Product Receiving and Visual Inspection
When the product arrives, we perform a basic visual inspection.
We may check:
- Product type
- Quantity
- Visible condition
- Color, size, or model when reasonably verifiable
- Packaging
- Obvious differences from the approved listing
We then send you unedited photos or videos of the actual product received.
You review the inspection materials before international shipping is arranged.
What the Inspection Cannot Confirm
Our basic inspection is not:
- A laboratory test
- A technical performance test
- A product safety certification
- A professional authenticity examination
- A material-composition analysis
- An expert appraisal
- Proof that a seller is the original manufacturer
Hidden defects or internal problems may not be visible during a basic inspection.
What Happens If There Is a Visible Problem?
If we identify visible damage, an incorrect product, an incorrect quantity, or another significant visible difference, we contact you before international shipping.
We can assist with requesting a:
- Return
- Exchange
- Replacement
- Seller refund
The available solution depends on the Chinese seller’s return policy, return period, evidence requirements, and acceptance decision.
Step 5: Packing and International Shipping Quote
After you approve the inspection results, we securely pack the products.
International shipping is then calculated based on:
- Final packed weight
- Package dimensions
- Destination
- Product category
- Selected shipping method
- Carrier requirements
You receive a separate Stage 2 international shipping quote.
The package is dispatched after the shipping quote has been approved and paid.
DDP and Other Shipping Options
A tracked DDP or duties-paid shipping option may be available for certain products and destinations.
When DDP is selected, applicable import duties and taxes are normally handled as part of the agreed shipping arrangement. DDP defines responsibility for duties and customs formalities, but it does not guarantee that customs inspections or delivery delays will never occur.
DDP availability depends on:
- Destination country
- Product category
- Package size
- Declared value
- Carrier and shipping route
When duties and taxes are included, this will be clearly stated in the written shipping quote.
Why International Shipping Is Paid Separately
The seller’s listed product weight may not include:
- Retail packaging
- Protective packaging
- Reinforced cartons
- Bubble wrap
- Additional accessories
- Dimensional or volumetric weight
Calculating international shipping after packing allows the quote to use the final package weight and dimensions.
This provides a clearer cost breakdown than charging an early estimated shipping amount.
Transparent Yiwu Sourcing
AncientTao separates the main costs of every sourcing order:
- Actual product cost
- China domestic shipping
- Sourcing service fee
- International shipping
You review the relevant costs before each payment.
We do not hide our service earnings inside marked-up product prices or promise that every product comes directly from a factory.
Our role is to help overseas customers confirm products, communicate with Chinese sellers, purchase approved items, inspect visible condition, prepare packaging, and arrange international shipping.
